Leonard Fournette And What Lies Ahead For Our Beloved Jacksonville Jaguars

I admit that my initial reaction yesterday was me being ugly. I still feel the same way that the pick of a running back in the top 5 when you don’t have a solid line is kinda silly. The Jaguars must pick interior offensive linemen with their 2nd and possibly 3rd-round picks.

Let’s look at some of the things that ole Leonard does well.

You put him in a hype video and he looks amazing. Running over people, sprinting to the end zone. You watch a full game tape of him and you can see that he has some pretty big holes in his game.

He’s not as pure of a pass protector as you’d like, something that he’ll be required to do pretty early because the Jaguars line is… not good. Pass pro in the NFL is much different than in college. Leonard also wasn’t asked to catch the ball out of the backfield much at LSU. He’ll need to improve there as well. He’s gotta find a way to get lower pad level initially. Sure you can point to some examples of guys who run well with high pads, like Eddie George, but there isn’t many.

Like all college running backs, most of Leonard’s huge runs come because there are gaping holes that he could exploit. We always hear about the throwing windows getting smaller in NFL; the same holds true for running backs. Does Leonard have that vision to create space?

I’d like to see the Jaguars target Will Holden of Vandy or Forrest Lamp of Western Kentucky tonight. Both would be even better.
